Split PDF

Break one PDF into several files.

When to use it

Use it when one PDF holds several documents, for example a batch of scanned letters, or when a file is too large to send in one piece.

How it works

  1. Choose a file, or drop it onto the box above.
  2. Choose how many pages each file should hold.
  3. Press the Split PDF button.
  4. Download the result, or add a next step without downloading.

Where your file goes

This tool runs in your browser: the file is processed on your device and is not uploaded. The Network tab of your browser's developer tools shows this.

What is kept, and what is not

Every page is copied exactly; nothing is re-encoded.

Limits

  • The document is cut into parts with the same number of pages each. Splitting at bookmarks or at a file size is not supported.
  • Files up to 512 MB each.
  • PDF documents up to 5,000 pages.
  • The work happens in your device's memory, so a phone may fail on a file that a computer handles.

If something goes wrong

I only need a few pages, not every part

Use Extract PDF Pages instead: it keeps only the pages you name and gives you one file.

The PDF asks for a password

Remove the password first with Unlock PDF (you need to know it), then try again.

The page becomes slow with a very large file

Close other tabs, or use a computer instead of a phone.

My file is not accepted

Check the formats listed above. A damaged file, or one with the wrong extension, is refused with a message saying why.

Questions

How do I get every page as its own file?

Set the number of pages per file to 1. Each page becomes a separate PDF, and you can download them all together as a ZIP.

Does splitting reduce quality?

No. Pages are copied as they are, without re-encoding text or images.

The result can go straight into another tool on this page, without downloading it and uploading it again:
