Split Excel Sheets

Save every sheet of a workbook as its own file.

When to use it

Use it to send each person or branch only their own sheet of a shared workbook.

How it works

  1. Choose your files, or drop them onto the box above. You can add several at once.
  2. Add a workbook. Each sheet becomes a separate Excel file; download them one by one or all together as a ZIP.
  3. Press the Split sheets button.
  4. Download the result, or add a next step without downloading.

Supported formats

Input
XLSX, XLSM
Output
XLSX
Files
One or several; each file is processed on its own

Several results can be downloaded one by one or together as a ZIP.

Where your file goes

This tool runs in your browser: the file is processed on your device and is not uploaded. The Network tab of your browser's developer tools shows this.

On first use, your browser downloads the code this tool needs from this site. Your file is not sent anywhere.

What is kept, and what is not

Formatting, column widths and merged cells are copied with the same engine as Merge Excel. Formulas that refer to other sheets can no longer find them.

Limits

  • Formulas that refer to other sheets no longer find them once each sheet is a separate file.
  • Files up to 512 MB each.
  • The work happens in your device's memory, so a phone may fail on a file that a computer handles.

If something goes wrong

Some cells show errors in the new files

Those cells refer to another sheet of the original workbook. Replace the formulas with values before splitting if you need them.

The page becomes slow with a very large file

Close other tabs, or use a computer instead of a phone.

My file is not accepted

Check the formats listed above. A damaged file, or one with the wrong extension, is refused with a message saying why.

Questions

How do I get all the files at once?

Download them together as a ZIP, or one by one.

Is formatting kept?

Yes. Formatting, column widths and merged cells are copied to each file.

Continue with the result

The result can go straight into another tool on this page, without downloading it and uploading it again:
