Add Watermark to PDF

Stamp text such as CONFIDENTIAL or DRAFT across PDF pages.

When to use it

Use it to mark copies as DRAFT, CONFIDENTIAL or COPY, or to add your name before you share a document.

How it works

  1. Choose your files, or drop them onto the box above. You can add several at once.
  2. Type the text, choose position, strength and colour, and optionally the pages. Latin text is added as real text; other scripts are drawn by your browser and added as a transparent image.
  3. Press the Add watermark button.
  4. Download the result, or add a next step without downloading.

One or several; each file is processed on its own

Several results can be downloaded one by one or together as a ZIP.

Where your file goes

This tool runs in your browser: the file is processed on your device and is not uploaded. The Network tab of your browser's developer tools shows this.

What is kept, and what is not

The original pages, text and links stay unchanged underneath the watermark. A watermark can be removed by someone with a PDF editor — it marks a document, it does not protect it.

Limits

  • The watermark is text only; images and logos cannot be used as a watermark here.
  • Files up to 512 MB each.
  • PDF documents up to 5,000 pages.
  • The work happens in your device's memory, so a phone may fail on a file that a computer handles.

If something goes wrong

The watermark is hard to see, or covers the text

Change the strength and the colour, or choose the tiled or centre position instead of diagonal.

The PDF asks for a password

Remove the password first with Unlock PDF (you need to know it), then try again.

The page becomes slow with a very large file

Close other tabs, or use a computer instead of a phone.

My file is not accepted

Check the formats listed above. A damaged file, or one with the wrong extension, is refused with a message saying why.

Questions

Can I watermark only some pages?

Yes. Enter the pages, for example 1-3; leave the field empty to mark every page.

Does a watermark stop copying?

No. A watermark marks a document; it does not lock it. To control opening, printing and copying, use Protect PDF.

Continue with the result

The result can go straight into another tool on this page, without downloading it and uploading it again:
