Unlock PDF
Remove the password from a PDF you are allowed to open.
When to use it
Use it when you know the password of a PDF and want to save a copy that opens without it, for example for your own archive.
How it works
- Choose a file, or drop it onto the box above.
- Enter the PDF's password. The file is decrypted in your browser and saved without a password.
- Press the Unlock PDF button.
- Download the result, or add a next step without downloading.

Where your file goes
This tool runs in your browser: the file is processed on your device and is not uploaded. The Network tab of your browser's developer tools shows this.
What is kept, and what is not
The content is kept exactly. This tool needs the password: it does not guess or crack passwords.
Limits
- Only use it on files you are allowed to open. A forgotten password cannot be recovered or guessed.
- Files up to 512 MB each.
- PDF documents up to 5,000 pages.
- The work happens in your device's memory, so a phone may fail on a file that a computer handles.
If something goes wrong
The password is refused
Passwords are case-sensitive. Check the keyboard layout and try copying the password in.
The page becomes slow with a very large file
Close other tabs, or use a computer instead of a phone.
My file is not accepted
Check the formats listed above. A damaged file, or one with the wrong extension, is refused with a message saying why.
Questions
Why does my PDF open without a password but still block printing?
It has only a permissions password. Such files can usually be unlocked without entering one.
Is the content changed when the password is removed?
No. Pages, text and images stay the same; only the encryption is removed.
Continue with the result
The result can go straight into another tool on this page, without downloading it and uploading it again:
