PDF to Word
Convert a PDF into an editable Word document.
Word, Excel and PowerPoint layouts cannot be converted faithfully inside a browser, so your file is sent to our server, converted, and deleted immediately. Nothing is kept. Every other tool on this site works on your device.
When to use it
Use it when you need to edit the text of a PDF and do not have the original Word file.
How it works
- Choose your files, or drop them onto the box above. You can add several at once.
- Add a PDF and confirm the upload. It is converted with LibreOffice on our server.
- Press the Convert to Word button.
- Download the result, or add a next step without downloading.
Supported formats
- Input
- Output
- DOCX
- Files
- One or several; each file is processed on its own
Several results can be downloaded one by one or together as a ZIP.
Where your file goes
The file goes to our conversion server only after you agree. It is converted there and deleted straight away; nothing is kept.
What is kept, and what is not
Text and its position are kept, but a PDF has no paragraphs, so the result is laid out in text boxes and needs tidying before heavy editing. For scanned PDFs use Scan to Word.
Limits
- A PDF does not store paragraphs, so the text is placed in text boxes and needs tidying before heavy editing.
- Files up to 100 MB each.
- Very large or complex documents can take too long on the server and are stopped. If that happens, try a smaller file.
If something goes wrong
The Word file has no text, only images
The PDF is a scan. Use Scan to Word, which recognises the text first.
The conversion fails or takes too long
Check that the file opens in its own program. Damaged or very large files can fail; a smaller file usually works.
My file is not accepted
Check the formats listed above. A damaged file, or one with the wrong extension, is refused with a message saying why.
Questions
Is my PDF stored on the server?
No. It is sent only after you agree, converted, and deleted straight afterwards.
Why does the layout look different in Word?
PDF places text by position on the page, while Word flows it in paragraphs. Complex layouts never convert perfectly.
